Rebuild a Strong & Sturdy Smile

Every year, millions of people choose to replace their lost teeth with traditional dentures. Traditional dentures are stronger and more comfortable than ever before, but they still have some downsides. Is there a better alternative? For most patients, yes! When you visit Sunset Avenue Dental in Springdale for a tooth replacement consultation, we may recommend that you get implant dentures. These prosthetics are a wonderful way to rebuild a strong and sturdy smile.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Dental implants are small posts that are made out of medical-grade titanium. Once they are surgically inserted into the jawbone, they fuse with the surrounding tissue. Therefore, they are able to act as prosthetic tooth roots that can support any number of replacement teeth.

There are a few types of implant dentures. Depending on what we discover during your initial exam, we may recommend that you either receive a fixed denture or a removable one. Here is a brief overview of each option:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures are permanently attached to the posts that support them; they can only be removed by a dental professional. Many patients like this option because they want to have their teeth in their mouth 24/7. As convenient as this option is, though, it does require more implant posts than a removable implant denture.

Removable Implant Dentures

We can usually support a removable implant denture with as few as 2 – 5 implant posts. These prosthetics are held in place via bar- or ball-shaped attachments, and they are easy for patients to remove on their own for oral hygiene purposes. We often recommend them for individuals who have lost some bone density in their jaw.

The Implant Denture Procedure

The implant denture procedure involves four main steps:

  • Dr. Bollin will verify that implant dentures are right for you before he starts planning the details of your treatment.
  • Implant surgery. Bollin and our team will carefully place your implant posts into your jawbone at precise, pre-planned positions.
  • Over the course of a few months, your implants will form a strong bond with the surrounding tissue.
  • You will receive your beautiful new set of teeth!

Although the implant denture procedure requires more time than traditional dentures, the end results are well worth it!

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

You might be a candidate for implant dentures if:

  • If you have all or most of your natural teeth.
  • Your jawbone is strong enough to support dental implants.
  • You are in fair oral and overall health.
  • You have good habits that will support the long-term success of your dental implants.

If you are unsure of whether you qualify for dental implants, visit us for a consultation. The chances are good that you can undergo this treatment, either right away or after some preparatory care.

Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants

Some of the most noteworthy benefits of implant dentures include:

  • Strength and stability. Implant dentures provide a strong bite force that can stand up to virtually any food, including relatively tough and chewy items.
  • Beautiful aesthetics. We carefully design implant dentures so they look both beautiful and natural.
  • Easy maintenance. Caring for implant dentures is not complicated or time-consuming.
  • Jawbone preservation. Because dental implants act like tooth roots, they can stimulate the jawbone and prevent it from losing mass and density.
  • With proper care, dental implants have the potential to last for several decades.
